"The first time I played Thai Chess I was quite frustrated because your moves are quite limited, for instance the Queen can only move one square at a time and never backwards, but I soon realised that it's a game of territorial advantage rather than tactical placement. It's more of a cross between chess and checkers. The pawns become more important and the rooks and knights become the most powerful pieces on the board. After a few games I learnt how to set up a good position, and the same tactics like pins, forks and uncovered attack still work effectively." - Andrew Bond
